Job Description

The Senior Underwriter is responsible for overseeing the underwriting and management of commercial real estate loans. Manages portfolio risk by ensuring timeliness and accuracy of all credit actions and risk rating decisions in assigned portfolio and by participating in pre-flight discussions. Coordinates work with Relationship Managers, other Credit Analysts, Credit, Loan Administration and other groups, promoting consistent quality and conciseness of credit documents while streamlining workflow among underwriting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating with a team of Credit Analysts and other Portfolio Managers across the Region, to complete new loan requests, quarterly/annual reviews, and other administrative credit actions.

  • Works with Credit Analysts to ensure timely monitoring of loans and the underlying sponsors.

  • Works with Relationship Manager to structure new loan requests, including preparation of term sheets

  • Ensuring the portfolio is audit-ready by providing oversight of existing internal processes.

  • Completion of various types of loan modifications.

  • Review and approval of loan draw requests

  • Becomes a senior member of the regional underwriting team and assists with the overall growth and development of the region and staff.

  • Works with other Portfolio Managers to promote consistency and efficiency across the platform.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Ten or more years of commercial lending experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Five or more years of commercial real estate lending experience

  • Extensive knowledge of commercial lending policy, government agency compliance (Reg B, H, O, etc.), all applicable laws and regulations, credit quality standards, company and business line policies and procedures

  • Prior experience in the origination and portfolio management of Real Estate loans.

  • Extensive knowledge of credit products and loan documents, specifically CRE loan facilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple fast-moving deal/portfolio tasks at a time.

  • Strong leadership ability to mentor coordinator the work of others

  • Well-developed written communication and verbal presentation skills

This role is hybrid. Team members who are in a hybrid role typically spend three days a week at a U.S. Bank location, while having flexibility on their work location for the other working days.

Salary range reflected is an estimate of base pay and is for the primary location. Base pay range may vary if an offer is made for work in a different location. Pay Range: $139,995.00 - $164,700.00 - $181,170.00
