U.S. Bank is seeking an experienced bank regulatory attorney for the Legal Regulatory Group (LRG) within the Law Division. This attorney will provide legal support on a wide range of applicable federal banking statutes and regulations including prudential and safety and soundness regulations, and how they apply to U.S. Bank’s operations, corporate activities, investments, and affiliate transactions. A familiarity with both federal banking laws and general bank operations are necessary for this role.

The attorney in this role will be assume primary responsibility for the management of the Enforcement Action Program, which involves monitoring enforcement actions directed at third parties, evaluating the alleged conduct in such enforcement actions, identifying project work, and providing legal advice and counsel to business lines and support functions regarding the enforcement actions entered against third parties. The attorney in this role may also provide support to the remediation efforts of various areas of the Company. The attorney in this role is expected to report to and engage with leaders throughout the Company, particularly in the Risk organization and Law Division.

Additionally, this attorney will be engaged with other LRG attorneys in drafting regulatory change memoranda; participating in trade association meetings; providing legal interpretation regarding bank regulations and state and federal laws for members of the Law Division, Government Relations, Corporate Risk and Compliance, Audit and business lines; and serving as legal support for various corporate projects.

Basic Qualifications Law degree

Licensed in good standing to practice law in at least one jurisdiction

Preferred Skills/Experience 10+ years of experience working in-house in the financial services industry or at a law firm with a strong knowledge of bank regulation and recent practical experience.

Knowledge of operations of business unit(s), products, policies in relation to the financial services industry

Experience interacting with and/or interpreting communications from the Federal Reserve Board (FRB), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is required

Experience in one or more substantive areas is preferred: federal and state consumer financial laws, Securities Exchange Act (SEC) laws and regulations, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulations, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) regulations

Experience communicating with individuals at various levels of a large institution, including preparing communications for leadership

Knowledge of and experiencing advising on consumer banking financial laws is a plus

Experience advising clients on legal requirements of state and federal laws

Excellent analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Advanced client management, diplomacy and people skills

Strong organizational and project management skills

A strong commitment to client service

The ability to work in a team environment
