Job Description

The Syndications Accounting & Tax Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Syndication Accounting and Tax team in all aspects of Fund Accounting and Tax processes. The Analyst will work through accounting and tax issues for syndicated tax credit funds consisting of investments in Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Renewable Energy Tax Credits, New Markets Tax Credits and Historic Tax Credits. The Analysts core responsibility will be to prepare accounting entries, review both lower tier and Syndicated Fund tax returns, and oversee the data and process reporting for both Sr. Analysts. The Analyst will report directly to the Director of Syndications Tax and Accounting Operations and will also assist with research and development of accounting and tax policy for syndicated funds while also working with Fund Management, Investor Strategy, External Investors, CPA Firms, and the USB Internal Tax Department to develop accurate GAAP and Tax reporting for investors, coordinate tax benefit updates, manage tax payments, and responding to tax issues. The role requires both accounting and tax technical skills with an emphasis in partnership taxation and tax credit investing.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

The Syndications Accounting & Tax Analyst will be responsible for the following:

  • Assist in tracking the annual Investor tax return and Financial Statement process to ensure that investors receive their documents timely.

  • Research and draft accounting and tax technical positions as they are needed for the syndication portfolio. Assist in related communication and coordination with Syndicated Investors.

  • Develop data processes for managing the lower tier syndicated tax portfolio as well as the Syndicated Fund tax return filing process

  • Assist the Sr. Accounting and Tax Analysts on issues to enable them to fulfill their duties in support of Fund Management

  • Stay in tune with accounting and tax law changes and issues, and understand how they may impact Syndicated Investors (i.e. tax reform, K-2-K-3 Reporting, Inflation Reduction Act)

  • Assist in the development of standard accounting practices for Syndicated Funds

  • Compile journal entries and supporting workpapers for Syndicated Funds in preparation of quarterly financial statements and annual audits.

  • State tax:

  • Assist with executing procedures and monitor state non-resident withholding in collaboration with CDC tax team

  • Draft responses to state tax notices and facilitate payments

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Five or more years of related experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • CPA or CPA candidate

  • Experience in Accounting or Tax with an emphasis on partnership taxation or Tax Credit Accounting

  • Excellent time-management skills

  • Understanding of tax credit accounting

  • Understanding of partnership tax concepts

  • Self-starter able to work in environment with minimal direction

  • Experience working with data and process management tools (Tableau, Alteryx)
