Job DescriptionU.S. Bank is looking for a Senior Java/Spring Boot Software Engineer to join one of our technology teams. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for assisting the team in Digital Initiatives, as well as working with architects/developers on proof of concept/design.
This position will be responsible for the analysis, design, testing, development and maintenance of best in class software experiences. The candidate is a self-motivated individual who can collaborate with a team and across the organization. The candidate takes responsibility of the software artifacts produced adhering to U.S. Bank standards in order to ensure minimal impact to the customer experience. The candidate will be adept with the agile software development lifecycle and DevOps principles.
Essential Responsibilities: - Responsible for designing, developing, testing, operating and maintaining products. - Takes full stack ownership by consistently writing production-ready and testable code. - Consistently creates optimal design adhering to architectural best practices; considers scalability, reliability and performance of systems/contexts affected when defining technical designs. - Makes sound design/coding decisions keeping customer experience in the forefront. - Consistently writes production-ready code that is easily testable, easily understood by other developers and accounts for edge cases and errors. - Consistently considers best practice when designing APIs and applies applicable patterns across several contexts/codebases, in accordance to agreed best practices and standards. Regularly designs code that fits with the overall architecture. - Uses systematic debugging to diagnose cross service issues and is adept at using a range of tools to detect when there is an incident and raises this with stakeholders in a timely manner. - Takes feedback from code review and apply changes to meet standards. Conducts code reviews to provide guidance on engineering best practices and compliance with development procedures. - Accountable for ensuring all aspects of product development follow compliance and security best practices. - Exhibits relentless focus in software reliability engineering standards embedded into development standards. - Embraces emerging technology opportunities and contributes to the best practices in support of the bank's technology transformation. - Contributes to a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement. - Reviews tasks critically and ensures they are appropriately prioritized and sized for incremental delivery. Anticipates and communicates blockers and delays before they require escalation.
Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience - Eight to ten years of relevant experience
Preferred Skills/Experience - Thorough understanding of a feature, the users impacted, the flows impacted and feature's purpose - Technical designs are clear, well thought out, and considers dependencies, failure states, maintainability, testability and ease of support - Considers scalability, reliability and performance of systems/contexts affected when defining technical designs - Understands the team's domain, how work in this domain relates to the team's objectives and deliverables and how it contributes to overall business strategy and how technical strategy maps to this - Thoroughly understands the business model in relation to their current product focus area - Ability to analyze the bigger picture, identifying and prioritizing with the aim to consider more than one domain within an analysis - Looks for opportunities to simplify product and technical design - Adept with agile software development lifecycle and DevOps principles - Able to communicate processes and results with all parties involved in the product team, including engineers, product owner, scrum master, third party vendors and customers - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Technical Skills/Experience Expertise in Java EE and web-based applications and services API development and delivery
Experience/expertise in large scale customer facing enterprise Java applications using Spring Boot Framework, RESTAPI & GraphQL, Java EE Design Patterns, Kafka, SQL & NoSQL (Cassandra is preferred).
Experience with Design & Implementation of Microservices architecture patterns and Domain Driven Design.
Cloud native application development experience with containerization, orchestration and service mesh (Docker/Kubernetes/ISTIO) and public cloud experience (AWS/GCP).
Experience working in a DevOps environment in an on-prem or public cloud environment (Git/GitHub, CI/CD Pipelines, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, GCP)
10+ years of progressive responsibilities in one or more of the following areas: API development and delivery, application design, Expertise in Java/Java EE and web-based applications and services.
5+ years of experience/expertise in highly scalable and available critical enterprise Java applications using Spring core, Spring MVC, Spring Boot Frameworks, GraphQL, Java EE Design Patterns, Kafka, Webservices, relational database, NoSQL cloud supported databases (Cassandra DB is preferred).
5+ years of experience – Designing API (Domain Driven Design) & Microservices architecture/design/implementation.
3+ years of experience in working in a Cloud and DevOps environment.
Experience with security, logging, monitoring best practices
Good to have UI technologies - ReactJS or equivalent framework
