Job DescriptionThis executive will develop the high-level frameworks that align IT infrastructure with business processes/data to support and enable the execution of business strategies, improve the efficiency & productivity of business operations, and better connect business objectives to the people, process, technology and data changes required to achieve results.

The leader will develop enterprise-wide conceptual technology architectures and create architectural principals to support critical business strategies & the long-term vision. They will work alongside and act as the technical voice of the Product teams, while owning a holistic review on how the products within the portfolio(s) align to strategic initiatives. This executive will understand different slices of the technology stack, while having a key understanding of most areas.

Lastly, they will be responsible designing and driving the technical strategy to improve the organization’s ability to design, test, develop, operate, and maintain their products while identifying opportunities in the technical landscape of the organization. They will foster a culture of continuous learning, sharing and collaboration within and outside of the organization – in tune with a highly visible and innovative leader at U.S. Bancorp. The executive will define and influence the long-term technical strategy with other executive leadership.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Provide high-level architectural guidance and assists the team in aligning architecture to business requirements. Work across the organization to foster a culture of applying applicable and relevant design patterns, in accordance with the needs of the company and guides the teams in the organization in anticipation of future use cases Work across the organization to foster a culture of architecture that allows for iterative, autonomous development and future scaling. Guide teams in the organization in anticipation of future use cases and helps them make design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes Set the direction of the architectural roadmap. Determine the Return-on-Investment for specific engineering initiatives and determine appropriate levels of investment for given strategic horizons. Establish engineering strategic objectives that drive architecture and technical approach Drive & set the culture of quality and timely code reviews across the organization while encouraging teams to consider release complications. Provide guidance on reviews conducted by others. Champion the engineering organization with an ability to understand and deliver to real user needs Drive the organizational testing strategy and uses quality metrics to identify gaps. Work with all teams to recommend solutions that are in accordance with accepted testing frameworks and the testing pyramid. Guide the teams on following standards and aims for best practices across the organization Work to keep skills up to date to aid in decision making, coaching and facilitation Actively work with the Security team to set and refine organization-wide security strategy. Foster a security first mindset across the organization. Drives security awareness and culture across the organization Take ownership of decisions made in the engineering organization by helping teams make clear decisions in alignment with enterprise goals, backing decisions made, and taking responsibility for their success. Ensure accountability is practiced throughout the organization Sets the delivery process direction across the organization, particularly with the importance & purpose of the methodology – have a clear point of view and guides the organization on improvements to the delivery process. Promote a culture amongst engineering of delivering features with minimal disruption to production. Responsible for executing product roadmap on-time and within budget and ensures security and relevant compliance of core systems Ensure expectations across the organization and external stakeholders are clarified between all parties involved. Identify dependencies across the organization and works with individual teams to resolve them before they become an issue and installs preventative measures to mitigate repeat occurrences Work across the organization to foster a culture of priority setting and urgency in alignment with organizational strategy. Coach the teams on making trade-offs, prioritization and managing technical debt. Identifies and manages technical and business risk Maintain awareness and understanding of, and to fully comply with, U.S. Bancorp’s “Code of Ethics, along with laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures that are appropriate for his/her position

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS Writes and establishes portfolio/enterprise level patterns that can be leveraged for a broad set of business use cases. Possesses expertise in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices in an agile environment. Leverage internal and industry design patterns to guide product team decisions within portfolio Able to exert technical influence, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing deep knowledge and experience Mentor, coach and support engineering teams across the portfolio/organization. Foster open source/inner source mindset and culture Strong communication, presentation, leadership, problem solving and analytical skills. Highly involved in the recruitment of engineering talent
