Job Description

U.S. Bank is currently seeking a strong candidate to join our growing team of renewable energy finance professionals as a Business Development Officer.

The candidate will assist in the marketing, acquisition and initial underwriting of loans and equity investments which will finance the installation of solar facilities and other renewable energy property across the country. Investments and loans are made through U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation, affiliates, or subsidiaries for the purpose of accruing tax, cash, and other benefits.

The Business Development Officer is responsible for a broad variety of duties which would include reviewing project investment proposals, analyzing complex cash and tax investment pro formas, structuring tax equity and/or debt offerings, developing and managing a portfolio of key customer relationships, and supporting various corporate and business line strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Sources and executes quality, risk-mitigated financing opportunities which will meet or exceed tax credit delivery, loan origination, and revenue objectives.

  2. Serves as the primary relationship manager for a book of renewable energy developer customers.

  3. Analyzes and reviews developer-produced investment proposals and models.

  4. Directs legal counsel and other third-party experts in the exploration of critical transaction issues.

  5. Works with credit risk management partners to issue term sheets for debt and tax equity opportunities.

  6. Develops tax equity and/or debt term sheets which detail, among other things, pricing proposals, structuring considerations, conditions to funding, and the allocation of transaction risks.

  7. Supports syndications/ capital markets efforts to maximize sale-side opportunities within secondary tax equity and debt markets.

  8. Facilitates the transition of originated investments to other internal teams.

  9. Demonstrates fluency in credit policy and best business practices.

  10. Serves as an external subject matter expert, often representing U.S. Bank in speaking roles and educational seminars.

  11. Efficiently prioritizes and completes a multitude of complex projects often on short timelines.

  12. Participates in special projects as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Five to ten years of tax credit industry experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Eight or more years of experience in renewable energy finance sector.

  • Prior relationship management and/or senior analyst/underwriting experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of renewable energy tax credit programs and structures.

  • In-depth knowledge of construction/term project finance lending and related products.

  • Detailed knowledge of critical aspects of renewable energy project underwriting which shall include equipment and performance review as well as a baseline understanding of U.S. energy markets including regulatory structures, physical and synthetic forms of power agreements and derivatives, as well as renewables-focused regional incentives.

  • Familiarity with critical banking processes and procedures, including credit policy review and approval.- Well-developed analytical skills which includes the ability to simplify and distill complex problems and issues. - Strong ability to develop trust and rapport with customers. - Excellent time management skills with the ability to effectively manage client timelines and needs. Ability to identify obstacles, manage expectations, both internally and externally.

  • Effective listener and advanced communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Highly motivated self-starter who has a good attention to detail, growth mindset, and ability to be comfortable in periods of unpredictability.- Demonstrated interest in and ability to motivate and mentor others.- Demonstrated interest in promoting diversity in the workplace and a commitment to maximizing equitable access to the benefits of renewable energy.- Demonstrated ability to speak publicly as an expert in the field of renewable energy finance.

  • Ability to think strategically about product development and other avenues for growth

Salary range reflected is an estimate of base pay and is for the primary location. Base pay range may vary if an offer is made for work in a different location.

Pay Range: $111,690.00 - $131,400.00 - $144,540.00
