U.S. Bank is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for Digital Banking Platform (mobile and online banking) with an optimal mix of technical & business acumen, strategy and vision, along with the ability to grow technical talent. This leader will lead the Digital transformation of customer facing products with full accountability and responsibility for strategy, architecture, design, development and implementation. The leader is an advanced technologist empowering the team to follow standard and secure coding practices while instilling a strict DevSecOps culture in the team. Builds meaningful relationships with relevant stakeholders and effectively partner to remove organization obstacles and guide cross-team strategic efforts.

Acts as agile/product champion by enabling product teams and partnering with other leaders to drive empowerment, autonomy, engineering momentum, and business value. Fosters a culture of empowerment, engineering excellence, and growth within the team. The team is a composition of architects, engineering managers, software engineering team of employees, onshore and offshore contractors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Establishes engineering strategic objectives influencing architecture and technical approach. Leads technical teams in delivering highly scalable and reliable applications that provide business value in alignment with the strategic vision. Establishes a culture of quality, continual improvement, and best practices.

Champions engineering and operational excellence. Establishes metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement. Coaches the engineering organization on a troubleshooting mindset to diagnose issues and prevent their reoccurrence. Resolves blockers and removes organizational obstacles across teams. Leads incident response across the engineering organization as needed.

Possess deep understanding of Agile product and delivery principles and promotes continued improvements to the delivery process. Delivers new features with minimal disruption to customers and production.

Drives strong communication and strategic alignment throughout the organization. Collaborates with leadership team and product management to define goals, vision and growth. Solicits feedback from engineers, managers and stakeholders. Sets priorities and urgency in alignment with organizational strategy. Builds strong partnerships that enable team’s ability to stay on the leading edge of industry solutions.

Builds and retains diverse, geographically distributed, high-performing teams. Fosters an organizational culture of ownership, autonomy, quality and speed of execution. Encourages a culture of mentoring and coaching.

Partners with the security team to apply the organization’s security strategy. Fosters a security-first mindset across teams.

Understands financial and technological drivers on impacts to revenue, risk, brand and overall financial strategy. Effectively handles risk, change, and uncertainty within their team.

Engages with vendor management, on and offshore development teams, contract negotiations and consultant spend.

Exhibits relentless focus in software reliability engineering standards embedded into development standards.

Embrace and advocate the attitude of “Customers First” in all phases of SDLC.

Embrace emerging technology opportunities and contribute to the best practices in support of bank’s technology transformation.

Evangelize the culture of innovation and adoption of cloud native open source technologies.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (or above) in Computer Science or related field

6 to 8 years of relevant software engineering experience

5 or more years of experience leading geographically diverse software engineering teams with wide technology platforms

Essential Capabilities: Strategist with strong Architecture principles and deep knowledge of information systems technology especially digital customer-facing products such as online banking, mobile, voice and chatbot applications.

Exceptional leadership abilities and strategic management skills

Effective communication skills at varied levels executives.

Considerable tact, diplomacy and people skills

Strong understanding on design principles, patterns and best practices for mobile use.

Experience with software development using Agile practices especially Scrum

Strong understanding of Front End / UI Design Methodologies

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field from a reputed engineering school.

10+ years of relevant software engineering experience.

8+ years of experience leading software engineering team.

Experience leading cloud migration on any public cloud using open source tools.

Hands on experience developing native iOS, Android, and Responsive applications including ReactJS, Swift, Kotlin, AEM, HTML, .Net, etc.

Strong understanding on design principles, patterns and best practices for mobile use

Knowledge of Money Movement functions like Transfers, Zelle, Mobile Check Deposit, BillPay etc. on any banking platforms will be a plus.

This is a hybrid office role (two days in office/ 3 days remote). Preferred locations for the hybrid model are Atlanta, GA, Dallas, TX or Portland, OR.
