Job DescriptionU.S. Bank is seeking a motivated Principal Engineer with strong technical, influential, and leadership abilities to help drive the success of our enterprise technology initiatives, focused on enablement of our engineering community and DevSecOps program. In this role, you will provide technology leadership for the developer platform used by engineers across the company, particularly focused on cloud migration and scaling of DevSecOps, CI/CD, and Testing tools and Infrastructure. We are undergoing a broad-based technology transformation and invite engineers who want to engage with a diverse range of problems and systems to help influence technology strategy and implementation. We invest heavily in open source technologies and seek employees who understand the open source ecosystem and are keen contribute back

You will design and execute true end-to-end development and testing of software products in an agile lifecycle. Partnering with key technical and business stakeholders, you will help refine the product vision, estimate and design a solution, craft the product, ensure quality, and support the software as it moves to production. The Principal Engineer role is for those who can contribute directly to our most challenging engineering problems as well as guide company leadership on technology strategy. It is critical for this position to have not only the technical skills relative to development and testing, but strong collaboration and communication skills in order to support your team and have a broad impact across the company. You will guide other engineers through empathy, as well as the ability to demonstrate and prototype sound technical solutions that add business value.  - Accountable for solution design and delivery executed by Technology & Operations Services (TOS), the business line and vendor partners. - Act as an interface with TOS and business partners, vendors and subject matter experts (SMEs) for solution design and delivery; provide counsel to the business line during ideation stages. - Proactively communicate statuses, issues, risks and mitigation to senior leadership; serve as a primary project issue escalation point. - Champion the refresh of bank standards and methods using learnings from program delivery, SMEs and industry changes. - Drives alignment and influences vendor partner product strategy. - Develops and communicates program visons and roadmaps. - Advises on solution definition, planning and high-level design. - Appropriately governs program technology and engineering dimensions.

Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business, MIS, engineering, computer science, mathematics, any science, or equivalent work experience.

Eight or more years of experience in delivering software-based solutions

Preferred Skills/Experience

Ability to set technical strategy and lead deployment for continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines and tools 

Ability to analyze features to deliver solutions that meet business needs 

Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills; frequently presents to senior management and other key senior stakeholders 

Open, honest, collaborative and clear intra-team communication skills 

Ability to strongly influence enterprise decisions and technical direction, including architecture, system design, and processes / standards 

Able to lead by example; providing support and mentoring as needed to ensure sufficient skill, knowledge and effectiveness in the development and testing process 

Demonstrated enterprise-level collaboration and product design experience

Ability to influence a cross functional team to obtain desired results, initiate new efforts through iterative design and drive the engineering teams to completion. 

Extensive knowledge in modeling and application design and architecture  

Extensive programming knowledge

Experience in multiple types of testing, including but not limited to Unit, Functional, Performance, End to End (including automation and integration with CI systems) and Agile Software Development (typically Scrum, Kanban, and scaled agile frameworks) 

Creative, flexible, and willing to continuously change, evolve, and improve software development processes 

Strong understanding of system and network architecture 

Demonstrated mentorship of peers in technical and business topics 

Participates in key stakeholder decisions and technical direction, including architecture, system design, and processes / standards 

Thorough understanding of multiple development methods with the ability to select the most appropriate approach with little to no consultation

Strong technology architecture skills, currency with technology industry, demonstrated success in delivering complex software based solutions at scale.

Well-developed leadership abilities and strategic management skills

Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills

Master’s degree and related experience may be sufficient if missing other required basic qualification areas

5 or more years of experience in administration and use of DevOps pipelines

3 or more years architecting various DevOps tools, including three or more of code repository, agile flow, orchestration, deployment, and binary repository

3 or more years of experience in public cloud

3 or more years of experience with Kubernetes and containers (Docker)

5 or more years Linux knowledge

Understanding of enterprise security architecture and principles
