Key Responsibilities

  • Define the processes needed to achieve operational excellence in all areas, including project management and system reliability.

  • Build a high-quality data engineering team and design the team to scale.

  • Provide technical leadership to a data engineering organization developing new products from the ground up

  • Apply your knowledge and know-how on software development, testing and release best practices, to ensure high quality deliveries

  • Build cross-functional relationships with Data Scientists, Product Managers and Software Engineers to understand data needs and deliver on those needs.

  • Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production.

  • Our Engineering Management roles write code a minority of the time, but we are interested in candidates who enjoy coding and want to remain technical

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or another related field

  • Previous experience building data tools, platforms, and services

  • At least 10+ years of building data/analytical/ETL and data and analytical product experience

  • 5+ years of management experience

  • Hands on experience in building data systems and pipelines using distributed technologies such as Hadoop, Presto and Druid

  • Demonstrated experience in DevOps, containerized applications, and Kubernetes

  • Experience building applications on public cloud such as Azure or AWS

  • Strong analytical skills and application of data in day-to-day operations

  • Experience building analytical platforms and services using tools such as Apache Superset and Tableau. Familiarity and working knowledge in open-source technologies is a big plus.

  • Strong hands-on coding skills in Python, Spark, SQL, and critical/analytical thinking

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Very broad knowledge of information systems technology, data pipelines and business analytics

  • Development experience in any of the public clouds such as Azure or AWS is a huge plus

  • Strong leadership abilities and strategic management skills with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior talent

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Well-developed analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills

  • Considerable tact, diplomacy, and people skills

  • Master’s degree in computer science or related field is preferred
