Job Description

Are you passionate about hands-on coding, testing, releasing, monitoring, and supporting working software in production? We at U.S. Bank are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with PHP, ReactJS, Laravel, Grav, Drupal, JavaScript, Angular, HTML5, Node.js experience to lead and deliver game-changing API developer portals. You will have an opportunity to design, develop and deliver software leveraging your technical expertise and grow in breadth of technology in more than one area. Your strong design, analytical and problem solving skills will be crucial to our success.

About the Team

The U.S. Bank Enterprise API team contributes significantly to enabling our customer-focused experience. We are the first bank to use mobile to open accounts and we are using our data intelligence to bring a next-generation, holistic experience to customers across U.S. Bank.

The top challenges for the team are delivering APIs for our rapidly evolving product, balancing development velocity with API consistency, and improving the architecture to handle the scale of 2.5+ million daily customers conducting transactions through mobile, online and other digital channels. The API Developer Portal is a key part of this strategy to enable the discovery of APIs by developers and foster innovation both internally within US Bank and externally with our partners and the public.   • Thoroughly understands the business model in relation to their current product focus area. Looks for opportunities to simplify product & technical design.

  • Provide thoughtful thinking and strategies in effectively resolving problems and issues. Takes ownership of incidents which fall in their domain and may be involved in the resolution of an incident or provide assistance to others on resolving incidents.

  • Has a thorough understanding of the team's domain, how work in this domain relates to the team's objectives and deliverables and how it contributes to overall business strategy and how technical strategy maps to this

  • Creates project proposals and designs that have considerable impact or touch multiple systems. Technical designs are clear, well thought out, and considers dependencies, failure states, maintainability, testability and ease of support.

  • Collaborate with product owners, product managers and the business on feature development, as well as mentoring other engineers and advising managers.

  • Has a holistic view on how the applications across more than one context integrate with each other.

  • Understands their team's testing approach and uses quality metrics to identify gaps. Works with their team to recommend solutions that are in accordance with accepted testing frameworks and the testing pyramid. Develop elegant, resilient, tested, and secure applications

  • Awareness of the organization’s monitoring philosophy and skilled with the monitoring tools. Helps tune and change the monitoring on their team accordingly.

  • Keeps business context in mind when proposing architectural decisions. Also considers scalability, reliability and performance of systems/contexts affected when defining technical designs.

  • Work collaboratively, and communicate effectively with a commitment to be part of a successful team.

  • Approaches engineering work with a security lens and actively looks for vulnerabilities both in the code and when providing code reviews.

  • Develop or streamline complex processes to improve performance and consistency to minimize errors

  • Willingness to learn and experiment with new technologies.

  • Be an active participant in all phases of the development life-cycle of our API Developer Portal applications including architecture, implementation and maintenance.

  • Reviews tasks critically and ensures they are appropriately prioritized and sized for continuous integration and incremental delivery. Anticipates and communicates blockers, delays before they require escalation.

  • Create custom modules/plugins/packages etc. for CMS and MVC frameworks and clean and semantic HTML/CSS templates

  • Use DevOps experience so that you can own an entire engineering problem rather than a single piece of code.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Five to six years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree

  • 10+ years’ experience designing, developing, and implementing API solutions 10+ years of CMS development experience using applications like Grav, or Drupal

  • 10+ yrs of experience in PHP, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML5

  • 10+ years of experience using MVC frameworks like Laravel or Symfony

  • 10+ years of experience JavaScript frameworks like React.js, Angular.js, and Vue.js

  • 10+ years of experience with developing and implementing web applications

  • 10+ years of experience with templating engines like Twig or Blade

  • 10+ years of experience with microservices and REST APIs

  • 10+ yrs experience on DevOps tools like Git, Jenkins, Docker

  • 8+ year of Agile experience

  • 8+ years of experience developing and deploying secure web applications on the public cloud

  • A keen interest and drive to continuously learn new techniques and technologies

  • Self-driven, self-sufficient, actively looks for ways to contribute, and knows how to get things done

  • Expert in using Test Frameworks and good understanding of test driven development concepts and supportive tools like Selenium and Karate

  • Experience building API developer portal and content management solutions.

  • Deep understanding of Apigee is plus

  • Expert knowledge of object-oriented and functional programming concepts.

  • Experience in a major server-less development, including infrastructure.

  • Has depth and breadth of knowledge across multiple software engineering disciplines

  • Experience with scripting languages like Python, Ruby

  • Experience with developing and deploying applications on the cloud, preferably on GCP (Google Cloud Platform) and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
