Job Description

U.S. Bank has a great opportunity for an experienced Credit Approval Officer to support our Business Banking organization. This individual will be part of a team supporting the Business Banking East and Midwest Regions for Commercial and Investment Real Estate lending, and Agriculture Production lending for all Regions in Business Banking.

The Credit Approval Officer will approve loans in excess of Business Banking Credit Services authority with a focus on larger and more complex Business Banking portfolios and ensures conformity with bank policies. The individual will work with underwriting and sales teams on transaction and covenant structures. The incumbent will be integral to ensure that ongoing administration and review is adequate to maintain the loan portfolios' quality and profitability. This person will be accountable for an effective partnership between the Line of Business and the Lines of Defense.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Typically more than 12 years of applicable experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Significant experience in underwriting, approving, and oversight of Investment Real Estate and Commercial/Industrial credit requests and portfolios.

  • Experience underwriting, approving, and oversight of Agriculture credit requests and portfolios.

  • Expert knowledge of Risk/Compliance/Audit competencies

  • Ability to manage job scope and complexity of assigned business at the departmental and/or division level.

  • Strong leadership and management skills of processes, projects, and people

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with business units to innovate and strategically grow portfolios while appropriately managing risk.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills

  • Well-developed customer service/relations skills

  • Ability to guide and influence underwriting and sales teams to align with the bank’s risk culture and appetite.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations while maintaining trusting relationships with the business line and other stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of the business line’s operations, products/services, systems, and associated risks/controls.

  • Strong analytical and risk analysis skills

  • Considerable knowledge of applicable credit policies, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that impact business banking.

  • Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that impact business lending

  • Considerable knowledge of Business Banking operations, products/services, systems, and associated risks/controls

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $145,180.00 - $170,800.00 - $187,880.00
