U.S. Bank Quantitative Model Development Analyst in Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Description

Creates, tests, documents, implements, and/or oversees usage of complex statistical models. The models may cover a variety of products or services, however, all models are used as part of the financial decision making process. Specific results focus on documenting the creation and/or testing of advanced statistical models and communicating such models to stakeholders within the Bank. Deliverables include the creation of model development and/or validation documentation such as: presentations, written reports, model or reporting code documentation, business requirements, monitoring reports and related code, and procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field, and three or more years of relevant experience

OR

  • MA/MS in a quantitative field, and less than three years of related experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

Industry Experience and Skill Set

  • General understanding of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that affect assigned line of business

  • Experience with using vendor platforms used for asset and liability management or portfolio management

  • General knowledge of quantitative and qualitative risk factors, industry risks, competition risks, and risk management approaches

  • Prefer experience with comprehensive capital risk, stress testing, interest rate risk, and fee modeling

Quantitative Skill Set

  • Strong statistical modeling background based on technical training or advanced education in a quantitative field with a thorough knowledge of various regression techniques, parametric and non-parametric algorithms, times series techniques, and other statistical models, various model validation tests/methodologies, using Python, R, SAS or similar statistical package

  • Behavioral model design using logistic, multinomial and generalized additive models

  • Strong data compilation and data analysis skills, good working knowledge of SQL is a plus

Mortgage Modeling Experience

  • Prefer experience with mortgage-backed securities (MBS) analysis, specifically prepayments and concepts such as option-adjusted spread, effective duration, effective convexity, and total return

  • General understanding of residential mortgage amortization, prepayment analysis, and mortgage delinquency analysis

  • Experience working with loan level mortgage data is a plus

  • General knowledge of general fixed income mathematical concepts such as discounted cash flows, duration, convexity, and yield-to-maturity

Project Management and Professional Skills

  • Has performed model development activities, validation, or oversight project from beginning to end

  • Demonstrated independence, team work and leadership skills

  • Strong project management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
