U.S. Bank recently announced one of its larger investments in modernizing its technology to migrate its infrastructure and application portfolio to the cloud, partnering with its primary cloud provider, Microsoft Azure. U.S. Bank is seeking a motivated and passionate individual to provide technical cloud expertise to the Distributed Database Automation team as we expand our modernization and transformation efforts.

This position will support the Infrastructure Technology Services organization by redefining our database solutions in the cloud. This Cloud Database Engineer will design & develop Infrastructure as Code deployment patterns for Relational Database platforms (Oracle, SQLServer, DB2 UDB, and PostgreSQL), NoSQL platforms like (Cassandra/Datastax and MongoDB), and other emerging DB technologies. You will participate in cloud migrations and management of DB platforms. As part of this role, you will play a critical role in our company’s transformation by sharing your cloud knowledge to team members and being a trusted advisor on this journey.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to

  • Designing and documenting build standards, deployment patterns for database platforms that will automate our high-risk processes and controls

  • Creation of terraform scripts, and orchestrate deployment pipelines with CI/CD tools

  • Create code and version repositories to deploy database builds

  • Oversee initial migrations (pilot) while we build confidence and skill within each team

  • Mentor existing staff, provide training recommendations

  • Provide consulting services and recommend options to application teams

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Five to six years of relevant experience

Experience should include

  • Expertise deploying DBaaS, PaaS, and IaaS DB solutions on Azure and cloud migration tools

  • Expertise with infrastructure as Code using Terraform

  • Expertise with CI/CD deployment pipelines, for example using Jenkins & Gitlab

  • Strong automation development & DevOps experience, preferably with Python & Salt

  • Experience with one of the following Database technologies: SQLServer, Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB (or combinations)

  • Experience managing & monitoring production database workloads in the cloud

  • Experience with database security features within cloud, secrets/password vaulting, data encryption at rest/in transit

  • Exposure to Kubernetes and Rancher

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for the ability to share knowledge and teach cloud concepts to engineers (more technical) and leadership (more strategy)

  • Proven collaboration and influencing skills for working with many teams across a large enterprise
