Job DescriptionApplied Foresights Senior Product Manager (Grade 16) Summary Description: Foresight is the process of turning facts about the present into plausible, provocative, and logical views of alternative futures. Using a broad spectrum of signals, trends, scenarios and future scans in multiple domains, the Applied Foresights Practice prepares our people to act now on impactful opportunities and challenges 3 -10+ years out. Applied Foresights helps to find and guide teams to their preferred possibilities and leads to outcomes that improve the Bank’s innovation footprint. Outcome-based activities include exploratory research, concept development, invention workshops, experiments, prototypes, intellectual property-filings and technology or partner sourcing to name a few.

The U.S. Bank Innovation Applied Foresights Team is currently seeking an Applied Foresights Senior Product Manager to support strategic assessments of emerging trends, technologies and scenarios and to craft and develop potential product and service offerings, along with related IP. The incumbent will report to the Applied Foresights Leader and assist Innovation senior management in exploring, evaluating and nurturing future product and service strategies, opportunities and partnerships. In doing so, the applicant will work with a variety of business partners and subject matter experts within and outside the bank to identify, define, and cultivate opportunities to meet our future customer wants, needs and/or overcome their future challenges. The incumbent will be responsible for projects/assignments of high complexity, confidentiality and/or scope. Performs under minimal guidance and supervision. Provides guidance to junior staff and may lead a functional team and/or project. Applies extensive in-depth knowledge of professional concepts and established and emerging technologies. Job activities will include (but are not limited to): Works with the Applied Foresights Director to develop expertise in and curate applied foresight tools, methods and research to help develop and manage the practice​ Is a seeker, highly self-learning and constantly exploring, scanning and improving the Bank’s understanding of relevant emerging and future spaces. Can independently lead, co-lead or participate in projects of varying size and complexity, with internal and external cross-functional audiences, keeping stakeholders informed and involved as needed. Collects and curates signals of change, drivers, trends research and other data, synthesizes implications and impacts to identify future opportunities and threats to the Bank and its business interests. Authors papers, blog posts, intelligence gists or other documents to provide Applied Foresights’ point of view on diverse topics. Manages and guides the coverage of research vendors, such as Finnovate’s Daily Innovation Briefing. Always looks to improve the quality of data and signals for the practice. Works with Applied Foresights Director to build a network of futurists and applied foresight consultants and agencies. Works along with the team to engage applied foresights consultants/agencies in order to improve the practice, for example to vet, design and develop a trending operations & early warning system Collaborates with the team and Corporate Communications to define and execute an Applied Foresights artifact sharing strategy Helps the team to find, filter, and recommend areas of focus​ for prioritization. Works with the team to create a Scenario Creation capability and engages with others in scenario development, analysis and action-planning Works with Applied Foresights Director to develop a credible challenges and disruption scenario program to identify building threats to our businesses. Explore promising & plausible scenarios & concepts, build prototypes and recommend initiatives for the innovation funnel​ & backlog. Works with the Fintech team and our Practice Areas (e.g., AI, Blockchain, etc.) to participate as a signals collector and contribute as a SME in Fintech and Enterprise-class partnership efforts Collaborates with the Fintech Acceleration group to vet relevant Horizon 2-3 partnerships and investments​ Works to collaborate, co-create, obtain and commercialize Intellectual Property of relevance​ to the Bank and its future Works with the team to co-create a Futures Scan offering to discover, synthesize and communicate the 5-10+ year plausibility for domain(s) of interest to Innovation and the Bank’s constituents Opportunistically (and within budget limits) attends future-oriented events, conferences and executive briefing centers As needed, contributes in creative design, invention and exploration activities such as design sprints, invention workshops, etc. Opportunistically and as available, participates in significant bespoke engagements & consulting (e.g., help stakeholders to expand their possibilities domain or invention space, provide ideas for big business development concepts or brand collabs, provide review and critiques of future-focused strategies, etc.) Works to recognize opportunities for innovation in financial products and services and creates/defines strategies that provide a competitive advantage for us across industries and domains. Is fluid in innovation and applied R&D methods, processes, tools and techniques and able to contribute at any stage in cross-functional internal and external innovation projects. Assists in providing necessary leadership in strategy and business model thinking and management. Is creative and imaginative; Works with cross-functional teams to imagine and co-create design-based artifacts to prototype and demonstrate future experiences. Creates presentations and other artifacts, such as prototypes, storyboards, design fiction, other storytelling methods, videos, blog posts, personas, etc., for sharing with relevant audiences. Can create presentations and other communication methods to teach and influence people up through the C-level suite on applied foresights and innovation topics Must have strong experience with data collection, analysis and quantitative methodologies for demonstrating new concepts, new value propositions, benefits and risks, and product/service possibilities. Works effectively and empathetically with a diverse and inclusive team across the Bank and external organizations to ensure the Applied Foresights and Innovation agendas are understood and supported. Is open and willing to consider/synthesize new signals, data and perspectives, integrating them into developing point(s) of view on the future as necessary. Can work comfortably in an environment filled with volatility, uncertainty, chaos and ambiguity.
